Hottest Hot Wheels: One in Ten Corvettes Stolen Over 30 Years

The sleek body and unmistakable design have established the Corvette as an iconic American sports car. Since its first production in 1953, the Corvette has been cherished by collectors.

These enticing features are not lost on car thieves, which is why the National Insurance Crime Bureau reports Corvettes as some of the hottest hot wheels in the country, with one in ten Corvettes stolen over the last 30 years.

Between 1953 and 2011, NCIB estimates there were 134,731 Corvette thefts, but theft reporting was only consistent once VIN reporting protocols were established in 1981. From 1981-2011, a total of 90,427 Corvettes were reported stolen in the United States and Puerto Rico.
